It is hard to find a more superior or a more important phenomenon than our health.

Maybe when we were younger and our health was taken for granted we had some other special wishes apart from just feeling well.  However, often our heart wishes could only be fulfilled in as much as our health allowed it.

Having worked with more than thousand people during the past 30 years, the roman poet, Virgil's, short statement is confirmed in almost all of my clients sessions. Some conditions seem unfair, some are difficult to come to terms with, and some consume all waking hours and after trying many things, there is a danger a state of hopelessness could set in.

During my years in practice I have been very lucky to witness health emerging out of a burdensome and problematic situation.  Sometimes a heavy diagnosis or prognosis is hanging like a cloud in a person's consciousness and apart from alleviating pain or discomfort not much is offered, EXTERNALLY.

Weighty prognoses have never sat well with me.  Back in the 80s I had been suffering numerous slipped disks.  I was puzzled as I was only in my 20s and considered myself healthy.  I was given a choice between a spinal operation or just resting with painkillers to "fix" the situation.  It scared me to think they were the only two options.

I searched in many different directions and what I found was a surprise.  My body was in fact not letting me down but had a message for me.  At that time I had just moved from Germany to England and my "backbone" was showing me it needed to be re-established.  Discovering holistic body work was one aspect, finding friends and making England my new home was the other important factor in creating a "new spine".

Because I couldn't settle with the two options I was given, I had decided to take my health into my own hands and not shy away from looking what else was not working inside of me.  This was such a big step in my recovery.

In cranial work, I listen, listen, listen to what your body wants to communicate and when it has been heard all tissues can relax and let go.  In deep relaxation your own self-healing forces come into action.  We are programmed to heal.....just imagine when you cut yourself, numerous activities are being set off in your body straight away.  Your brain alerts the white blood cells to send a defense mechanism to ward off bacteria, the red blood cells are being activated to build clods to stop the blood flow, at a certain time new collagen is produced (depending on the depth of the wound) etc....a fact is, when the new skin forms it is actually stronger and thicker than before (scar tissues).  I am not saying this lightly and some clients I see have a much bigger challenge than I myself have ever experienced.

In Kelly A Turner's book, Radical Remission, we hear about the most remarkable healing stories against all odds.  Although, her case study patients suffered very different diseases, all had one thing in common, they summoned any strength they had left to take back their health into their own hands and developed hope and a strong relationship with their precious bodies.
