Happy Wesak, Beltane and First of May
Wesak, often called "Buddha Day", is a most sacred Buddhist festival, commemorating the birth, enlightenment and passing of Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha.
Beltane, a traditional Gaelic festival, celebrates the beginning of summer, being halfway between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice. Globally the 1st of May is celebrated by combining ancient fertility rites with modern International Workers' Day. Festivities include marches, dancing around a maypole, creating flower garlands, and lighting bonfires.
With all three traditional and sacred festivals falling onto one day, the energy on our planet must be powerful.
What do these celebrations stand for apart from bringing people together in a joyful way?
Buddha's life had a strong focus on reflection, on peace, particularly inner peace, on wisdom and most of all on compassion. The Celtic fire festival reminds of the returning light, which brings with it fertility, new life and growth. And the global celebration of the 1st of May is bringing joy back into stagnant and "old" systems.
When we are able to tune into this high vibrational energy, created through these festivities, (even if we are at home) we will benefit and might even feel uplifted. The process is not at all alien to our own inner world and nature herself......merely a reminder of life starting again with hope and beauty.
We do have to keep reminding ourselves of all the goodness, the beauty, and community around us now more than ever. These high energies keep the balance and will prevail.
“Nothing can dim the light which shines from within.”
Maya Angelou
